This week on Hubspot we learned about how to amplify our content through the use of social media.
This class has to do with the attract stage of the inbound methodology. Social media is a very powerful tool for businesses and is helpful for customers at every step of the buyer's process. It is important for businesses to have social media interaction, because it is a great way to reach out to prospective customers and foster connections. It is also a great way to show appreciation towards current customers and also to deal with unhappy ones. Social media allows a business to show its personality and remind people that you're not a machine, but human.
There are important steps when dealing with social media,
- You need to optimize your profile. Include the keywords you want people to associate with your business, this also means that your social media profile is more likely to be found through Google with those keywords. Always include links to your website and add visuals when you can. People are naturally drawn to images first, and then later, to the text and information provided with it.
- The second step is to know your personas. Know where they are spending their time on the internet. And when you find them pay attention to the things they are posting.
- Next step is to build reach. Reach means the measure of potential audience size. When you post to a specific person's social media, you're going to be seen by the people who follow that one specific person. Hubspot recommends using the "cocktail party rule", which basically means to try to be the life of the party. Ask questions, promote other people's content and use curating content. The general goal should be that 80% of your content should be interesting and the other 20% should be promotional.
- Next you need to customize your content to each platform. By platform we mean like Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. All are social media outlets but all should be approached differently. For example your Twitter should be kept short and sweet, with lots of hash-tags to reach your audience. Facebook should be lighthearted, use images, and the best times to post is either early morning or around 3 in the afternoon. For LinkedIn, you're going to want to focus on a more professional atmosphere. You'll want your information to be polished, clean and thought-provoking.
- Last, but not least, analyze to refine. Stay on top of your data, make sure you know what's popular and what's not. This will allow you to focus on making posts that are more helpful towards your business.
Happy Networking!
